Photographer Mikaël Theimer always carries his camera with him, but Marion — his girlfriend of more than six years — isn’t always excited to be the camera’s center of attention.
Theimer’s girlfriend is so camera-shy that he created a series of photographs featuring her hiding from the camera. The photographs show Marion bashfully modeling on her daily adventures with Theimer.
Whether they’re drinking coffee or cuddling on the couch or walking in the snow, Marion hides her face from the camera whenever Theimer comes around.
Theimer told Mashable via email that the first time Marion used her “cheeky” personality to hide from his lens, he found it funny and photographed her anyway because he felt it really illustrated her personality.
“It’s become a game between the two of us, we find ways to make new images together and instead of being boring, posed portraits, we play with how, where and when she can hide,” he shared.
Theimer also told Mashable that the pictures are never staged. “Sometimes she’s just doing something I find cute and I raise my camera…and sometimes, as we’re walking around, I see a scene and ask her to pose in it,” he said.
Theimer says Marion initially found the attention surrounding the photos a bit unsettling. However, she and Theimer have since recognized that the photos share an important message.
“I realize it’s something many women can relate to: You only ever see the selfies and the models online, so pictures of people who LOVE the camera,” Theimer shared. “For everyone who doesn’t love the camera, the web must feel like quite a lonely place…I guess it’s refreshing to see someone who’s not trying to get her face all over the web for once.”
